Three teachers and a program coordinator will deliver targeted literacy programing and connected activities to help students going into grade 3 reach their reading goals.  The program will run Monday to Friday for 18 days from 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM.

We are looking for support for our students during their read to self time.  While the teacher is doing guided reading with about 4 kids; that leaves 4 others to work on their own.  We are looking for a volunteer in each class to move from student to student reading familiar stories, poems and other books in the class quietly with these students, helping them to stay engaged in literacy activities longer and to practice skills and concepts learned.

 

We hope volunteers could be at the program by 10:00 AM, help with supervision of students outside and then support in the classrooms until noon.

Volunteers would be welcome to leave at this point or stay and help with lunch recess and even play/engage with literacy centres at about 1:00 if they would like.

​

Volunteers do not have to commit to every day, come one day or a few days, come one day per week or come every day.

​

Qualifications – must like kids and listening to kids read!
